Crown Princess Victoria awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award to the author Barbro Lindgren at a ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall. Barbro Lindgren's production includes picture books, poetry, plays and children's books. Since her debut in 1965, she published a hundred titles translated into about 30 languages. The jury's citation reads as follows:

Barbro Lindgren is a literary innovator. She has the linguistic and psychological audacity nuances renewed not just the picture book for the youngest but also the absurd prose narrative, the existential children's poem and the realistic portrayal of youth. With perfect pitch, she expresses both bright lyckoögonblick and playful antics as life's mystery and the proximity of death.

The host during the award cemony at the Concert Hall was Lamine Dieng, an actor, dancer and artist. On stage was also the actor Per Sörberg and musicians Edda Magnason, brothers Lindgren (Barbro Lindgren's sons), Amanda Bergman and Ebbot Lundberg. Staffan Forssell, Director General of the Swedish Arts and Culture Lena Adelsohn Roth gave speeches and laureate Barbro Lindgren finished the evening with a vote of thanks .
